To the Editor. Sir,—Rarely, if ever has there been so much controversy over a matter as there has been over the phrase “Choose Charming Temuka,” which has been selected for the above slogan. This is a sure sign that what has been done has met with general disfavour. In fact, it goes further than this for it reveals the fact that almost everybody is opposed to such‘a silly, senseless slogan being . used for attempting to advertise the attractions of our prosperous town. . , The people of Temuka realise that unless something is done to reconsider the phrase chosen, that they will have to for ever hang their heads in shame and he under a ban of contempt, There has been enough written to substantiate this. The Business Men’s Association is doing a good service to the town and district, but in this matter they are . certainly open ' to ridicule. “Choose Charming Temuka”; what for? Its cheap booze or perhaps its pretty girls! I would urge them therefore, to have all the slogans handed in, submitted to the ratepayers, leaving them by actual majority to pick out the one most suit able. It necessary a fresh competition could be held, inviting fresh slogans, as the public are now wide awake over the matter. A small en try fee could be charged to meet idxpenses. The ija'tepayers should decide for themselves, out of the number submitted what is the most suitable. We, who are citizens of Temuka realise that .'we live in a “no mean city,” and Ihe suggestion made is only for (he good of all concerned. —1 am, etc, “COMMON SENSE,”
