TEMUKA DISTRICT NEWS. Markets generally have been very quiet this week. Wheat has eased and is nominally quoted at 5/0 for Tuscan. Several sales took; place early this week, hut they were all at better figures , than those men- 1 Honed. However, an improvement Is anticipated within the next week. February delivery Velvet is required and 6/- or a little bettor is offered for good samples. There seems to be very little Velvet grown in this district, and good prices should be obtainable for delivery. Red chaff and Hunters for prompt delivery are worth about 5/10. Chaff, sales are reported at £3 2s 6d on trucks, sacks found, for good bright quality. There is, however, a lot of chaff offering, and there seems to be little demand. Potato sales are being made every day,, farmers now being prepared to meet the, market. Several owners are selling half their crop and holding the balance on the chance of a rise later. Whites;-are worth £3 on trucks, sacks in, but there is no demand for reds, Peas are still firm at late rates, with farmers selling freely. The shower of rain yesterday will do the peas good as several crops were very -dry .’and appeared to be shrivelling instead of ripening. Ryegrass remains dull sales being reported at 2/9 to 3/-. Western Woltbs are, not worth threshing, and very few samples are coming to hand. Nominally they are worth about 1/6. Cocksfoot samples are very good this year, and sales have taken place at from 6Hi to 7d per lb. Vetches are, fairly plentiful, and there docs not seem much demand. One sale took place, yesterday at 5/- per bushel. A few, samples of barley are being offered and are meeting with a ready sale at about 4/-. /Crested dogstaii is in short supply, and is inquired for at, about 9d to lOd per lb. A fair amount of oats have now been threshed and early orders appear to he filled. A grade Cartons ' are worth 2/6, but there is little demand. Glovers are firm at late rates, but it is not expected that many samples will he offered for about a fortnight yet. Nominal quotations on trucks, sacks extra unless otherwise stated.
