To the Editor. Sir,—l am pleased to see that there are some who have the interests oi Temuka at heart, and who .. resent the town being loaded for all time,with a slogan such as 'Choose Charming Temuka." I, like your former correspondents,' believe that the slogan chessn is far from suitable, for (he purpose of advertising our town, and further, that if th 6 slogan is printed and distributed far and wide, it may tend to bring Temuka into ridicule, rather than advertise its attractions.'' I contend that for a slogan, plain old "visit" or "come to" Temuka is more definite and on the right lines, and ■ more in. keeping. with the idea of telling- people to come here rathei' than the suggestion of there being any alternative. 'The old illustration of ',.' It pays to advertise", that , I first heard in the:heyday of my youth,. stiill holds good. The question ..-.was put.to ian eld gentleman by, a.youth of the go-getter type: "Why have you always eaten hen\ eggs, and not duck eggs?'*" "I,don't know," came the reply, but the explanation offered was that the hen always cackles and advertises her wares,; Therefore I consider that a slogan for Temuka should ho couched in plain, homely language without any doubtful term that might be construed as self-flattery. '. Temuka is a tourist resort, an anglers' resort, and a picnic resort. Let us tell the people of the Dominiion in as few words as possible to come here and see for themselves. • I believe the most satisfactory way of settling the question is* to take a vote of the large number pf people, interested in the slogans submitted. —I am, etc., "A THIRD EX-PUPIL."
