temuka pictures. A story about motion picture life has been made into a rollicking comedy-drama called ‘‘The Beauth ful Cheat,” starring Laura La Plante, screening at Temuka tonight. The story is a joyous one from beginning to end, and has more than its share of laughs. It is the story of a little shop girl, taken from her niche by a movie producer, and sent abroad to be proclaimed as a great Russian actress. The press agent stages holdups and parties, and puts over sensational news stories with the result that the girl becomes famous. But her picture is a failure. Then the laugh plot thickens and moves through unexpected and hilarious happenings to a happy ending. The supporting pictures include a good Comedy and a Gazette.

■ To-morrow evening a picture entitled “Those Who Judge,” will be the star of a good programme at the Municipal Theatre, Geraldine. “Those Who Judge” deals with the consequences that are apt to occur, when one judges too hastily the actions of others, and tells of the experiences of fascinating young woman (Patsy Ruth Miller) who comes to a fashionable suburban town to escape a possible scandal in which she has been innocently involved. One man knows her secret and attempts to hold her in his power, when she becomes the object of -the affections of two brothers, the wealthiest young men in the community, with ensuing complications that are decidedly interesting. Two Comedies, the Latest Gazette and the- 11th episode of “Riddle Rider,” will also be shown. Look out for Anniversary week—- “ The English Optimists” on Tuesday, pictures and dance Thursday, and pictures and Stereoscopiks on Saturday.
