LATE MRS PURCHAS

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL SERVICE. On Thursday afternoon a very large number of people of all denominations assembled at the Anglican Church, Geraldine, to pay their last tribute to the lady who passed away on Monday morning, and show their sympathy with the Rev, H. Purchas and relatives of the family. A funeral service was solemnised ill St. Mary's Church, which was decorated with white flowers, conducted by the Rev. Canon Cocks and the. Rev. H. M. Cocks. The C'nurch.'was full, and many people stood outsfde. Many beautiful wreaths were placed on the coffin, which after the. service, was conveyed to the Geraldine Cemetery, the cortege including a large number of motor-cars and a long train of people on foot. The scene at the graveside was a very impressive one, the predominating note being one of heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved,..husband. The Rev. Canon Staples Hamilton, late incumbent of the Parish, was amongst those who attended. .■,. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. A. M. Macdonald, R. H. Orbeli,,J. Willoughby, and E. White. Miss Hughes accompanied the singing on the organ, and as the coffi<n : left the Church very feelingly played the Dead March in Saul.
