UNDERGRADE WHEAT.

GOVERNMENT FACILITIES FOR , EXPORT. WELLINGTON. Sept. 5. ; In the House .of ■ KepresentatiA'es the Hon. W. NosAVorthy (Minister of Agriculture) .made tOrday the following statement' in regard" to’ .thewheat position;—“ln terms of its guarantee to the growers .the vernmont is, bound to take over and pay for the surplus of good milling Avheat after- October 31, but in'order to determine Ahe extent of. the Government’s liability: as soon possible and to enable a. decision to be- reached as to the- best .method of marketing such wheat, I have, instructed the Wheat Controller to begin immediately to purchase good milling Avheat that comes to the standard as defined in the regu-; lations, even if the wheat does not reach the high standard that bad necessarily to be- fixed for. ..export. Full instructions in respect to this matter will be issued to all licehaed brokers from the Wheat Control Office some time this Aveek. In dealing with -surplus milling wheat the quantity of undergrade wheat will also be ascertained, and I ha\’e decided to offer to Avheat growers the facilities of the Wheat Control Office in finding a market ,f6r this class bf! Avheat 1 as byell. Whether these facilities 'will be used by groAvers avIII be entirely optional. I cannot undertake on behalf of the JGovernment jany financial obligations in respect to Avheat of under milling grade, but the Wheat Control Office will be prepared to arrange freights' and market to the best advantage all undergrade wheat entrusted to it by groAvers and, when the wheat has been placd on board ship, to arrange advances to grpwers. It will be necessary for growers to make an early decision as to Avhother they intend to avail themselves of this offer, and full instructions Avill be issued to Government brokers as early as possible.. Iu the meantime no permits to export undergrade wheat except in special circumstances Avill be granted. This, ot course, will not apply ,to undergrade wheat exported through the Wheat Control Office. Some months ago in anticipation of the situation that has now developed the Wheat Control Office. with my approval, sent to London and elsewhere samples and grades of Noav Zealand wheal inferior to good milling in order that, purchasers might know what we had to soil. Consequently there will be no delay in launching a scheme if growers decide to avail themselves of the facilities I am hoav offering them.”
