MOTOR COLLIDES WITH TRAIN.

ONE OCCUPANT INJURED. j GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S CARR I- j AGE DAMAGED. ; A motor car ran into the second express from the south at the Sel-,. wyu crossing at 7 o’clock on 1 uesdav night, resulting in injuries to one of the three occupants, the total destruction of the car, and damage to the Governor-General’s private railway carriage. The occupants of the car were Messrs, T. A. Lackner, C. E. Johnston, and Thyne (driver). Mr Lacuucr received injuries to his bade and hip, hut the others escaped unhurt. The train was promptly pulled up and Dr. Wilson, superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, who was a passenger, attended to the injured man. Subsequently Mr Lackner was placed aboard (ho train and conveyed to Christchurch, and thence to bespit" 1. ' The setting sun was against tue motorists, and they did not see the train till (hey were almost on the crossing. The car was slewed round in the same direction as the, train was travelling, but the bonnet hit a post at (lie cattle stop, and the rear of the car was caught, by the train and smashed against the fence of the cattle stop. The gas and electrical equipment and the step of the viceregal carriage were torn off, also the woodwork, and rear step of the next coach containing his Excellency's staff.
