TRAGEDY ON A FARM.
ATTEMPTED MtfRDER AND SUICIDE. ELTHAM, January li. A shocking tragedy occurred on a farm near Eltham this morning, farmer, William Percival Owen, attempted the murder of his wife and then committed suicide. While an employee was absent he attacked his wife with a meat chopper and left her in a serious condition. He then shot himself. When the employee (Watson)' returned an hour later, Owen was quite dead and the wife semi-conscious. Owen left a letter stating his intentions, and also saying that he was mad. The couple had been married about a year. Both were members of well-known and respected families.
