The Health Officer discovered ,'72 tins of opium floating near the Hoads. It ■was evidently dropped overboard from an eastern-going steamer with a view to evading duty. Two Chinamen were seen in a boat in tho vicinity, apparently with tho intention of picking it up. July 27. There has boon great activity in building operations. Three men swam ashore, but the remainder wore in great peril until a boat succeeded in getting through tho surf to their rescue. A man named Adams was badly hurt through being crushed against the boat.
