LONDON, Feb. 25
Lord Stanley, Financial Secretary to the War Office, stated that Earl Roberts has informed him that Mr Brodrick’s scheme had his unqualified approval. Sir H. Campbell-Bannerman said that the Continental army corps system was unsuited to British needs. He considered the linked battalion system successful.
Mr Asquith said that the Government had approached the composite problem of Imperial defence from the least important side. It, was a mistake not to -consullt the Navy. Mr Balfour denied that the Army was too iTarge. A:-reinforcing .arm# was absolutely necessary for defence in India. In the improbable event of war with Russia, Britain would need all her forces. The-Government's scheme provided that the Irish Land Bill, would he introduced before Easter.
Feb. 26
Mr Hanbury opposed Mr Price’s amendment urging, a, repeal of the exclusion of Canadian store cattle. Mr Hanbury declared that 99 per cent of British farmers were opposed to the change. The: amendment was negatived by 190 votes to 38 votes.
