SOUTH ORARI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A special meeting of the above committee was held in the schoolroom, on Monday evening last. All the members were present, and the bus- ' iness dealt with was the selection of an infant mistress. There were 12 applicants for the position. After discussion and consideration given to tho merits of the applicants it was resolved on the motion of Mr Bates seconded by Mr Boland, it was resolved to appoint Miss Thomson, of Oamaru. Failing Miss Thomson it was decided to oiler the position to Miss Smith of Kapua. At the ordinary monthly meeting held some days previously, the members present were :—Messrs W. Mason (Chairman), T. Bates W. Walker, T. Bracefiold and G. 0. Neil. The teacher' report stated that there were 90 pupils on the roll, and the average attendance was 74. Accounts to the amount of £l7 Os 2d were passed for payment. The receipts for the month were £8 Os 9d. The resignation of Miss Eitchic as infant teacher was received with regret. Several members present testified to the teacher's ability and the painstaking manner in which she had always carried out her duties.. After discussion it was resolved to call the truant officer's attention to the poor average attendance of scholars since the holidays. Mr Walker was appointed school visitor for the month, and the meeting then terminated.
