TEMUKA GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS. Messrs T. Buxton and Co., merchants, Temuka, report on the grain ; and produce markets up to yesterday as follows : I There is an entire absence of the speculative spirit in the grain mar- ! kets just now. The outside murk.i'.s are expected to give way any moment. The wheat market remains fairly steady, with hardly any old wheat offering, and the new scarcely ready to ruanket. Very heavy shipments are reaching Australia from - A i-gen-tinc. A private letter received this week names the figure for a line of 4000 tons at 3s llfd c.i.f. and e. which would require us Ho be able to supply at country stations at 3s 6d to compete against. Oats are reported as landing in Sydney 20,000 sacks a week from Tasmania. Buyers in Sydney report that prices must come down considerably, and New Zealand buyers do not care to commit themselves to any large extent—consequently only a hand to mouth business is being done. Barley is wanted if prime, which is scarce. Ryegrass and cocksfoot are both of only medium quality and are not in strong demand. Potatoes have little inquiry, being fit only foi local use. There is poor demand at prices quoted. If fine woather continues for the next ffourteen days a fair amount of most lines will be placed on the market, when things may be expected to settle down to something reliable. .
