After a storm in the early morning the weather broke fine yesterday for the sports gathering hold at Geraldine under tho auspices of the Geraldine Fire Brigade, but a cutting wind from the sou’-west blow across the domain all day, throwing rather a damper on the sports and militating largely against the attendance, which was anything but good. The Volunteer shooting match at Waimato also took away a number of young men from the town, while several private shooting parties went out into the country for a day’s sport, and these things, together with the cold weather, tended to make the attendance small. The officials, however, were by no means disheartened, and set to work to make ihe gathering as successful as possible from a sportsman’s point of view, and the events on tho whole were interesting, especially the Eire Brigade, competitions. The ground arrangements male by the committee were excellent, and were deserving of a larger meeting. The Geraldine Brass Band was in attendance, and helped in a largo measure to enliven the proceedings. The refieshmeut booth was in the hands of Mr G. 11. i ryant, who did fair business.
