London, Jau. 17. Wool sales—Messrs Buxtou and Co. and Messrs Charles Balme, Jacomb, Son and Co. submitted catalogues aggregating 8-171 bales. The offerings included a fair selection of merinos. The attendance was only moderate, and the sales were slow, buyers operating very cautiously. Prices generally were barely maintained, inferior faulty lots ruling 5 per cent, below December rates. American buyers competed for crossbred wools. Tallow —1700 casks were offered, and 1550 were sold. Mutton, fine, 29s 9d ; medium, 28s. Beef, fine, 28s 3d; medium, 275. The Union Bank of Australia have declared a dividend of 6 per cent, and carried forward £30,3000. Wool—Slow sale and large withdrawals. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 88,992,000 bushels.
