The following concludes our report of Wednesday’s meeting : Mr Barclay stated that the amount available this year for scholarships was £340 Is Cd. Of this .£172 was pledged for last year’s scholars, and the allocations made were £197 10s, making up £.339 10s. A discussion raised by Mr Talbot took place on two points — whether senior scholars ought not to be required to attend a regular High School, and whether travelling allowance should not be allocated without consideration of other allowances paid, as Wright. Temuka, was offered loss travelling allowance than the Sutherlands, because £1 was to be paid for school fees. No decision was come to on the first point, and the latter was settled by the adoption of the report. Mr Farnie wrote, asking that his daughter might be allowed to attend the Timaru High School instead of the Temuka School, and he pointed out that the railway faro is only half the amount of the lomuka school fees.—A difficulty appeared in the fact that 14 scholarships were aivarded, and the Timaru Board of Governors only provide 12 free places. The twelve had been allocated as above, and if one of the two allocated to Temuka were allowed to come to Timaru, another would be cut out, and it was decided to adhere to the recommendations made in the report. SWIMMING BATH. The chairman brought up the question of the Board making a grant towards the cost of constructing a swimming bath in the gaol reserve, but as there were so few present the members declined to consider it, WAIKAKAHI. Mr Barclay reported for himself and Mr Gow the result of their meeting with settlers on Waikakahi, adjoining Waihao, and as it appeared that those present could not agree on a site that would suit the majority and in any case the attendance would not’ exceed 20 or 25, the matter was held over for the present, SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.
