On Thursday evening the monthly meeting of the Weslayan Ladies’ Guild was held in the Social Hall, The tea was provided by Mrs J. W. Mdes and Mrs G. Ward. There was a large attendance of church members and friends. After tea an entertainment followed. Songs were given by Mrs Harrison and Miss Tinsley, readings by Mrs Gapper and Mr Barr, recitations by Miss E- Gapper and Mr Every, and two musical selections by Mr Harrison a capital dialogue was given by the Misses Miles, Goy, and King. At the close of the programme refreshments were handedround The Kev. W. Tinsley (who presided) expressed his pleasure at the large gathering, and accepted it as an indication of the interest which the triends felt in the welfare of the church. He referred to the very valuable assistance which the Ladies’ Guild rendered to the church. During the year about .£2B had been raised by the monthly meetings, which the ladies had given to help meet the expenses of the church. He was pleased to know that the annual appeal on behalf of the circuit had resulted in £7O being given. There was however still a deficit, which he would like to see wiped off. The quarterly meeting had suggested having a Gift Auction to clear off the debt. He did not know what the friends might think about it, but would be pleased to have an expression of opinion. Mr John Holwell said as one ef the stewards he felt that they ought to set straight away to work. He was sure the debt could be quidated if they made up their minds to do it. Mr J. Brown supported Mr Holwell, and hoped all would rally round and assist the stewards in their determination to extinguish the debt. Mr J. Miles felt that something should be done. The question was which would be the best way to go about the work. He was of opinion that the suggestion of the quarterly meeting was a good one, and he would move that a Gift Auction be held. After a general conversation on the question, the motion of Mr Miles was unanimously agreed" to. It was thought that the best time for making the effort would about the middle of September. The Eev. W. Tinsley moved a vote of thanks to the members of the Ladies’ Guild for their work during Che past year, which was carried most heartily. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year :-President, Mrs J. Brown ; Vice President, Mrs E. Brown ; Secretary, Mrs Gapper; Assistant Secretary, Mrs H. M. Miles ; Treasurer, Mrs S. Wright. The thanks of the meeting were tendered to Mrs J. W. Miles and Mrs Ward for giving the tea, and the meeting closed with the benediction.
