GERALDINE SALEYARDS COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —I would like to say a few words, through your valuable paper, about the last meeting of the Geraldine Saleyards Company, liy what I could see a few only came there to block the meeting. When the company was proposed they would neither vote for it or against it. All they could talk of was of charges made against them by Mr Wreathall. Mr B. It. Macdonald was talking of Mr Wreathall making charges against him and Mr Kelmau. I had no chance to speak at the meeting, as the chairman asked me to wait a bit, and then my claim was jumped. I was going to refer to a-letter in your paper signed “ Orari Settler,” speaking in favor of the yards at Geraldine. It was no Orari settlor that wrote that letter, as they want saleyards of their own. I think it is the best place to shift the yards to and make good yards. There is a piece of shingly land opposite the park very suitable, and roads leading from it in every direction. The Government might grant ten acres of it for the asking. It could be fenced in, with a good belt of trees round. Mr Dennisloun said at the meeting they could get 500 shares on the north side of Geraldine, but we could get double that on the south side with Orari. Shares would be taken right down to the beach, being a good cattle district. We could put a good refreshment booth up, similar to that at Washdyke; have the yards free, and hand them over to the auctioneers on certain conditions. It will be very little further for the Peel Forest people to come than it would be to Geraldine, and it is close to the railway. If the sale was held to come in with Addington any stock could be trucked away at night, and, if they want to drive them, all the rivers are bridged to Ashburton. W. Hawke.
