TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

An adjourned meeting of the above Bchool committee was held in the school last evening Preaeut Messrs llussell (chairman), Farnie, Larcombe, Grant, Hooper, Levens, aud Bates. An apology was received from Mr Miles. HEAD MASTER'S REPORT. The head master submitted the following report: — Sir,—l have the lion >r to report a 3 foliowra :—'l ho school reassembled after tho holidays on Monday, 26th June, with an attendance of 302. On the following day it rose to 332, but it has not k?pt up .to that number since. The attendance returns for last quarter, ended 30th June Bhow:—Roll number at end of quarter, 222 boys, 149 girls, total 371 ; averse attendance for quarter, 187, 130, 317; highest attendance for quarter, 200, 138, 338 The low average, as you are aware, was caused by the epidemic. We have. obtained for the use of the school four dozen pairs dumbbells, four dozon pairs Indian clubs, and eight doz-m wands These are now in use and vt-iil prova of great assistance io the teaching,of physical exercises and drill. Needless to day the children aro taking great iuterest iu these ex-rciees. A number of the blackbo»rds are iu a bad condition. Some of them could be improved by planing and re painting. Perhaps one two could b« tried in that way as an experiment, and if ir. proved Buccassful some others could be thtii repaired in the same way. CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence was read aud dealt with as follows: From the 8.-rar.l of Education, relative to the resignation of the Rov. W. J. Comrie as a ineunoor of the board, and asking tho committee to Dominate one leriou qualified to fill thsvacaucy. Nominations to roach the Educitiou Offica on or before Mouday, the 3Lst inßt. From Mr T. 0. Farnie intimating that he was a cindidato for the vacancy an! soliciting the support of the committee Mr Iluaaell proposed, aud Mr Lavans eecoud'ed—" That Mr Farnie be nominated as a candidate for the vacant seat on thw board." —Carried unanimously. Mr Farnie reported that with Mr Miles ie had visited the school aud found tv ryithina going on all right. The blackboards we '("much worn, aud there was a shirt aB!) of both boards aud easel 3. He rocummeodedthatMr McLeod's proposals be carried out. It was alao resolved that the hejd master be asked how many new blackboards aud easels he was short of, and make application to the board for same. The secretary wbb instructed to write to the board with a view of their architect inspecting the lavatories at the back of achool to find out what could be done re jrenovatiDg same. it was resolved that tho head master be asked to furnish vouchers, etc., to date, aud to hand over the surplus money to the committee. Messrs Leveus and Larcombe weie appointed visitors for tho month. Accounts to the amount of £2 19a lOd were passed for payment, aud a vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting. ___^____ — __
