S. Canterbury Acclimatisation Society.

A meeting of the Council of the Society was held at the Anglers’ Club. Temuka, on Thursday. Present—Messrs E. Richardson, jun. (chairman), O. Hassell, M. J. Knubley, It. McQueen, F. Palliser, C, N, Macintosh, W. (J. Aspinall, E. Cutten, and J. T. M, Hayhutst. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence waa read as follows: From the Lands and Survey Department, asking for information as to the boundaries of McGregor’s lagoon.—lnformation had been, supplied by the secretary. From Mr F. Barker, thanking the council for a supply of yearling trout for the Ohnpi. From Mr Wederell, St. Andrews, in reference to the trout forwarded far liberation in the Pareora.—The secretary mentioned that Mr Wederell had kindly taken charge of any fish forwarded and liberated there.—The council passed a vote of thanks to Mr Wederell for his services in this respect. From the Railway Department, covering ranger’s pass, and acceding to secretary’s request that a tank containing fish be carried free of charge to St. Andrews. From the Pareora ranger, applying for an increase of salary, owing to the condition of the river entailing more work.— The council regretted that the request could not be acceded to. From Mr J. Mcllroy, Geraldine, requesting use of a large net to remove some fish from deep boles.—The ranger to superintend the work. From Mr W. Wreford, thanking the council for recommending him ns honorary ranger, and acknowledging receipt of warrants. BEHOVING TEODT. On the recommendation of Mr Macintosh the secretary was authorised to supply trout to Mr A. C. Thomson, Albury, and Mr H. Acton, Cave. In the former instance Mr Richardson recommended that at least two-year-old fish be sent. Arrangements were made as to removal of large fish from Pareora to St. Andrews, and the secretary and treasurer were authorised to procure another tank if necessary. THE FISHING SEASON. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Colonial Secretary with the view of arranging for the extension of tho season from the loth April to the 30th. It was pointed out that tho licenses had been issued on the assumption that the Government would accept the resolution passed at the conference of Acclimatisation Societies, but that when the Fisheries Conservation Act Amendment Bill was slaughteaed no further steps were taken to have the season extended. EXPERIMENTAL HATCHING. The chairman stated that the secretary had consulted him with the view of being allowed to make some experiments in hatching fish. There was a convenient place procurable, and very little expense would be involved, as the secretary proposed to carry out any work with merely the assistance of the ranger.—The proposal was favourably received, and, on the motion of Messrs Knubley and Palliser, the chairman was authorised to expend up to £5 in carrying out the experiment. Several matters were disouafed in committee, and the meeting closed with the customary vote of thanks to tho chair.
