THE TICK PEST.
Brisbank, Sept. 8. A deputation of paatoralists asked for a reduction of rents in the tick-infested areas. It was stated that in the Northern Territory the ravages of the pest have boen no serious that the cmestion w.is whether it would not be bettor for the pastoralists to abandon their runs, as the only thing to bo done was to allow the country to be relieved of stock and the grass to bo burned off, which would take°two years, a number of instances were given where tho tick had reduced stock by from 50 to 75 per cent. Tho Miuistor of Lands sympathised with the deputation, aud promised that tho Cabinet would consider tho matter. It wos, he said, a difficult subject to deal with, because if tho Government granted relief in this case it would opou tho door for rabbit and drought-stricken holders of land to come in for assistance.
