LABOR ITEMS.
London, May 3. The builders’ strike is increasing in proportions, aud 10,000 men are now idle. Sydney, May 4. The boot manufacturers are gradually giving way, and the men are now resuming work ou the old terms. May 5. There is some prospect of the crane employees joining the miners’ strike. If they do the shipment of coal will bo blocked. Newcastle, May 4. A settlement has been ttrrived ut iu two of the collieries, and the men start work to-day at an advance. Coal has already risen 2s to 2s Gd, aud the probability is that it will go much higher. May 5. The Pacific Minors’ Non-union Lodge decided not to resume work until the demands of the district are granted. The Gartlee men, after obtaining concessions and signing an agreement, have taken a similar course, which will greatly strengthen the hands of the strikers. Negotiations with the Lambton aud Now Lambton men proved futile aud the pits remain closed.
