TIMARU MARKETS,

Tho Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited (per Mr J. Mundell, auctioneer), report on the horse and cattle market at Tattersall’s yards, on Saturday as follows :—Our entry consisted of 21 horses, 1 cow, farming implements, harness, etc. Useful farm horses were conspicuous by their absence, and several buyers wore unable to get their wants supplied. We quote values as under : Draught mares and geldings, young, with trial, £l6 10s, £lB, to £2O ; do light and aged, £B, £9 10s, to £ll ; light harness sorts, £lO 10s to £l2 10s ; hackneys, £7 os to £9 ; cows, £2 5s to £5.

WELLINGTON WOOL SALES,

Wellington, February 14,

The third sale of the series was held today, when tho catalogue submitted was about 14,000 bales. Tho attendance of English and local buyers was good, and values generally were about on a par with late rates; superior lambs id to fd per lb dearer. Best crossbreds ranged from 8d to Bjd, medium to good 7d to 7|d, inferior fid to 6|d, choice lambs wool7idtoßd, medium to good 6Jd to 7d, inferior from 6£d to Gd.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,

Sydney, February 15. During the fortnight 12,570 bales of wool were sold, a good number privately. The catalogue included a large proportion of mediums and inferiors. For all good sorts there was the keenest competition. For greasies the prices of the last series of sales wore fully maintained, with an occasional advance. Mediums and crossbreds maintained the advance and are unchanged. Scoureds opened weak, but afterwards regained their position. Faulty lines continue to drag. The market generally closed very firm. At a meeting of the creditors of M’Buruey, Wallis and Co., wool and produce brokers, the liabilities were £11,430, of which £IO,BBO are unsecured. The assets are valued at £6410. Except for Lenten and jute goods, which are steady, the demand was dull i during the week in the import market. Breadstuffs are unsettled, and pending any large transactions, it is impossible to fix a price. Milling wheat is nominally quoted jat 4s 4d to 4s Bd, Small sales are mentioned at a considerable advance on the former figure. Owing to the floods in the north, maize is scarce and the price is advancing, being quoted at 3s 4d to 3s 6d, Potatoes and onions, also are in very short supply. Other lines are steady. Melbourne, Feb. 15. Tho import market is quiet, and very little is doing. Sales of wheat at 4s lid to 5s have been made. Flour is dull and a little weaker. Feed grain is in good demand. During the week the Cabinet considered an application from farmers who wore victims of the drought for seed wheat. Subsequently a Bill was introduced in the Legislative Assembly to deal with the matter. The Minister said applications totalled 65,000 bushels. Splendid rains throughout the colony have greatly improved the crops and grass prospects. Adelaide, Feb. 14. With reference to the floating of the new loan of £839,500 at 3 per cent, the Colonial Treasurer states that he does not need the money for five or six mouths.
