TEMUKA STOCK SALE

The attendance at the fortnightly stock sale on Tuesday last was not so good as usual. The entries were very good, an unusually large number of sheep being yarded. The recen t rai u s did not hav e the effect of raising the price of stock, as it was thought to do, as very little business was done, bidding being very. The entries included about 4000 Rheep, 69 pigs, and 65 head of cattle, nearly half the latter being yearlings. The first pen of shorn sheep (fat ewes and wethers) for the season was yarded, but did not sell under the hammer, the price, 9s Bd, not coming owaer'fj reserve. London, October 27. The English wheat market is firm ; the Continental has an upward tendency, and the American is advancing. A cargo of South Australian wheat, per barque Serial Uyu which put into Capetown, has been sold there at 29s 3d. Spot quotations are —American, red winter wheat, COJ cents. At yesterday's sale, 2000 casks of tallow were offered, of which 500 were sold ; medium mutton at 22s 6d, medium beef, 225. t'he Antwerp wool sales are closed, prices being about par with the July Berios. Eleven thousand bales were offered, 43U0 being sold. Competition tvas dull throughut October 28. The objection to the importation of Vancouver salmon via Australia, owing to the closo season, has been withdrawn. Tho steamer Gulf of Lyons lost 45 hoi ses on the voyage from Sydney. She encountered a succession of heavy gales at tho outset of tho voyage. A scheme is on foot to establish a chartered company on lines similar to tho of the Chartered Company of South Africa for the purpose of acquiring territory iu Northern Australia. New York, Oct. 28. Adelaide, Oct. 28. The revenue for the quarter has increased by £14,000 compared with the corresponding quarter last year; while the expenditure has decreased by £43,500.
