GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The Geraldine Town Board held its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs A. White (chairman), W. S. Maslin, G. Ward, J. J. McCaskey, J. M. Sutherland, and W. H. Walton. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as under : From the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, sending returns. —Recommend that the list remain as at present. From the Ashburton County Council, requesting payment of £2 17s, board's Bhare of Licensing Committee's clerk.— Amount to be paid. From Mrs Andrews aud Mrs Leech, requesting services of scavenger monthly instead of fortnightly.—Agreed to. From the Geraldine County Council, asking the board to alter its proposition with respect to payment of slaughterhouse inspector's salary.—Board adheres to its former resolution. A petition was received from a number of ratepayers, asking that the water race be extended along Jollie street for the benefit of residents on the flat.—Resolved —" That the board inspect Jollie street ou Thursday next." From Mr H. B. Webster re transfer of lots IV., V., VI., and VII., Geraldine, to R. H. Pearpoint.—Granted on condition that rents are paid. From the Geraldine Fire Brigade, applying for annual subsidy now due; also asking an increase of as after paying working expenses the brigade had nothing left to keep up repairs, etc.— Annual subscription, £ls, to be paid; clerk to write to Fire Association, Christchurch, requesting a grant of £ls subsidy j tor the brigade, stating at the same time what the board had spent in fully equipping same. overseer's bbpobt. Tenders were opened for carting 250 yards of shingle as follows :—Dan Leary, Is 2d per yard road gravel, Is 4d footpath do; W. F. Bennett, lid per yard road, la footpath; T. Lord, ll£d per yard all round; W. Taggart, lid per yard all round; Jonas Fieneld, lOd road, is footpath; James Crafar, lOd per yard all round (accepted). M. Gregan's was informal. UNREGISTERED, npqs. It was decided that a new iron gate be erected at the park on the cemetery road side, the chairman to get offers from local men for making same. The Geraldine Trotting Club applied for the right to charge the publio for admission to the domain on Jane 20th, the day of its annual meeting.—Permission to be granted, subject to the club arranging with the present lessee. Accounts amounting to £l6 12s Id were passed for payment. The board then rose.
