TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Bead Board took place on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), Parke, Moore, and Coira. A letter was read from tho Returning Officer stating that Mr Moore had been elected a member of the board. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. Mr Coira moved, Mr Moore seconded, and it was carried unanimously—“ That Mr J. Talbot be re-elected chairman.” gQKRpSPONDENCE, Correspondence was read From the Geraldine County Council, sanctioning the making of a branch water-race on to Mr and Mrs Dorward’s sections at Rangitata.—Proposals for the expenditure of the amount of “ thirds” to do the work to be sent to the Land Board. From Mr J. Lee, notifying that he had gold his property at Epworth to Mr D. JfoOaUqm.-rvN’ecessary alteration to be made on the rate roll. From Afr M. Quinn, asking that his name be taken from the rate roll in respect to 96 acres of Park Domain.— Clerk to obtain from the Park Board informotion as to the present occupier. From tho New Zealand Estates Company, asking that Mr A. M. Clark’s name be placed on the rate roll in respect to Lot 21 of subdivision of Biveralea estate. —Agreed to, subject to Mr Clark consenting to same. From Mr J. Hay, asking for particulars of rates due on property purchased by Mr J. Brown. —Information had been supplied. Froo) Mr S. Wright, asking for pipes to put across the footpath at fyis entrance gates—The board will give Mr Wright permission to alter the position of the Eipes already there, but cannot accede to is request for more pipes being supplied at the board’s cost. From the Geraldine County Council, with reference to the price to be paid for the distribution of poisoned wheat on poads.—Left to the chairman, Mr Coira, w 4 the overseer to deal with.

W. liolleston, applying to have a road drain fronting on his section on Rolleston's Road deepened, pointing out that the shingle that will be obtained from the ditch is required on the road, and offering to pay one half the cost of the work; also drawing attention to the state of the road between Newlands and the beach, and urging that this road be placed, in reßpect of formation, on the same footing as other roads in the neighborhood.—The drain to be deepened at the joint cost of the board and Mr Rolleston, the matter of formation to stand over. From Mr J. Mather, stating that he is prepared to make tracings of Government maps, etc., and supplying information. From Mr W. W. Hamilton, District Agent Public Trust Office, asking for the names and addresses of the owners and occupiers of the land contiguous to Section 4260, Bangitata Creek.—-The information had been supplied by the clerk. A circular from the League for the Development of Gold-mining was received and read. From Mr W. Holwell, askiag permission to put pipes under the road at Milford to drain bis farm. The overseer's report was read as follows : " To the Chairman. " Sib, —I have the honor to report for the past month as follows: Contract No. 19, cleaning drain on Middle Swamp road, is completed and passed for payment. No. 20, cleaning Canal drain, will be finished in a short time. The cleaning of drain on dyne's road was let to B. Williams at 4s Id per chain, and that on Parke's road to Currie and Hooper at Is per chain; both these jobs are now finishing. The principal day work done during the month has been shingle repairs to roads. It is desirable that a contract be soon let for this description of work, as a good deal of it is required throughout the district. The drain fronting Mr Lewis's land at Orari requires to be cleaned.
