OUR VOLUNTEERS.
The majority of the Timaru Volunteers are expected to leave for the Easter encampment at Lyttelton this evening. The match arranged between the Temuka and Waimato Rifles has fallen through, as the Government will not issue passes to the competing team. Passes will only be issued to volunteers proceeding to camp. Major Somerville, chairman of the New Zealand Rifle Association, is drafting a circular to all volunteer corps and rifle clubs, suggesting that each corps or club should send a representative to the Sydney meeting in October next, representatives to be selected by competition in ranges q£ 200yds, OOOyds, and (500yds. Major Soiporyille is a/so endeavoring to arrange for a site for tfio next meeting of tide New Zealand Rifle Association. The South Island members of the council will be asked to flx uppu a suitable range midway between Christchurch and Dunedin, to be used alternately with the Treutham range near Wfllinguon, and both ranges to be thrown , competitions.
