TEMPERANCE.
On Friday evening last there was another large attendance at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine, when Mr B. Tennyson Smith delivered Gough’s oration “ Safe and right,” The Rev. W.O. Wood occupied the chair, and at the conclusion ef the oration 16 persons went forward and signed the pledge. On Saturday evening Mr Smith, according to advertisement, was to have delivered an original oration entitled “The trial of a notorious thief and robber, but, Saturday being an evening when many people are engaged in business, there was only a small attendance, Mr Smith, therefore, instead of the oration, spoke a few words for the benefit ef those who had taken the “ blue,” and tecited “ The drunkard’s story.” The tickets ware then returned and Mr W, S. Maalin (the chairman) closed the meeting and invited those who had signed the pledge to join in with the local Good Templars’ Lodge. Oh Sunday evening Mr Smith preached in the Primitive Methodist Church, when the chapel was crowded to the doors. Mr Smith chose for his text Mathew xvii., the last two words of the Bth verse: “Jesus only,” and delivered an excellent and pathetic sermon, after wbieb the members of the several Churches and others, about 500 in all, assembled at the Volunteer Hall, where Mr Smith recited Talmage’s sermon “ The arch fiend of the nations,” and 44 persons were induced to sign the pledge, making a total of 101 for three nights,
