The Age asserts that there is friction between the Premier and Lord Hopetoun in consequence of the action of the Government in putting down the estimates for Government House., The amount set down on this year’s estimates is less by £I6OO than was provided for the last three Governors. ! Typhoid fever is increasing to an alarming extent, and (he hospital accommodation is inadequate for the numberrof patients who apply for admission. Jan. 23. A little girl named Grace Lloyd, aged eleven years, was outraged and murdered by a farm laborer named Lamber, at Grata. The murderer afterwards committed suicide. Iso formal programmer's yet been arranged for the proceedings of the Federation Conference. The main question to bo settled will be the desirability of union. If this is agreed upon, then probably the delegates will be requested to appoint representatives who shall form a convention for the purpose of drawing up a constitution. Sydney, Jan. 22. Id the case against the owners of the Centennial the Court ruled that the bill of lading exempted the owner of the Vessel from liability for the cargo lost by the sinking of that steamer.
