In the course of a eulogistic article on the opening of the New Zealand, and South Seas Exhibition, the Sydney Morning Herald remards that to people of Australia the welfare and progress of New Zealand is a subject in which they will always take the liveliest interest. Speculating on the coming events, which are now casting their shadows before them, the question as to whether New Zealand will fall in the line and make common cause with the rest of the colonies, or set herself to work out a destiny of her own, is far from being one to which the smallest interest or importance should be attached. The Herald thinks it probable that the incorporation of New Zealand in a future Federal Union of Australasia will be an element of health and safety, Melbourne, Nov. 28.

Referring to the New Zealand Exhibition The Argus, m an article this morning, states that it is justified in regarding the history of the Dunedin Exhibition as the history of the marvellous revival of trade and industry in New Zealand, and goes on to say that the colony has solved a colonial problem by the simple dis-

covery that there is no royal path to permanent prosperity, but a road must be cut out by labour and skill. For this reason, The Argus adds, the greater and more sincere should be the congratulations of Australia. In conclusion it hopes that the Exhibition will be a success, and an index to permanent prosperity.
