In past years tho Temnka and Geraldine districts figured very prominently at this parade—in fact, the best of the horses in South Canterbury were" to bs fonnd in this district. This year, however, they were conspicuous by .their absence, not one horse from this district being on the ground. Amongst the draught horses the only one on the ground advertised to travel in this district this year was Time o’Day, the property of Messrs J. and J. Finlayson, of Oamaru, Time o’ Day is an old favorite in South Canterbury—certainly one of the best, horses which have ever walked the dietriot. His card gives the following particulars concerning him: —Ho is a beautiful bay, stands 16 hands 3 inches high; with fine flat bone, and feet of the most durable kind, surperior in action to most of the draught horses; bred by Mr Bobert Davie, Washdyke, Timatu. Sire, Young Yanquisher, imported from Scotland to Yiotoria, afterwards imported to New Zealand by Mr Holly, one of the best judges of Clydesdale horse in the colony. Grand sirs. Vanquisher, who was got by Old Sir William Wallace, who gained the fifty guinea prize awarded by the Eintyra and Barriok Societies respectively, for the best Clydesdale entire, Old Sir William Wallace was got by Lothian Tam, who was, as is well known, a most successful breeding and prize-taking horse. Among other numerous prizes, he gained the first prize of £4 at the Haddington Show; and in the same year he gained the first prize at the Highland Society’s Show, held that year in Glasgow, as the best stallion of the Clydesdale breed. Time o’ Day, as a yearling, was first : shown in Timaru, when he gained the first prize in 18V8; also in Timaru in 1879 he gained the first prize; the.same year in Oamaru he gained similar honors. In 1880 he gained second prize in TimarU'; the same year in Oamaru he was awarded, three first prizes: first as a three-year-old, first for the Derby, and first for the progeny.. In 188 ihe was placed third in the all-aged class at Oamaru, and third in the same class at Timaru. The year after be also gained third in Timaru. When four-year-old he was shown at the Metropolitan Show at Christchurch, and stood second to Prince Eayal (who was champion of Christchurch six years in sue*' cession), beating a large field of imported horses both from Scotland and Yiotoria.' In 1884 and 1885 he took first a-d champion at the Waimate show, and, a special prize for the best bone in the yard, Dating the past years Time, o’ Day’s iStook have taken five srst prizes, four seconds, and one third, and one year at Timaru show Mr Perry, took the Cup.with Time o' Day’s stock alone. Hollywood, the distinguished racehorse,, was the .pnly other horse advertised to travel 1 in this district, and with other horses we havenpthing to do. He was not in.good show condition, as it was only a couple of weeks ago that he was racing. His quality,' however, could have been seen at once, and there can be no doubt that he is an excellent horse. He is a powerful horse, aged, stands 16i hands high, of a bay color, with black points. He ie closely related (o some of the best performers in the Australian Colonies, including Dsgwottb, Welcome Jack, Winchester (late .Manchester), Take Miss, and others. Hollywood is by Python, imported ,six years ago by his present owner, Mr L. Mackey, who' selected him in Sydney, Python’s half-brother, Dagworth, was one of the greatest performers that ever walked, the Australian turf, aud among his victories were the Hawkosbury Grand Handicap (twice), Great Metropolitan Stake*, A.J.O. Plate, Kandwick Plate (twice), Melbourne Stakes, and Bbyal Park Stakes, while he also ran second to Don Joan in the Melbourne Cup, and second to Speculation in the Sydney Cup. It is not only through the deeds of her son Dagworth that the name of Nutcut has been noised abroad, for prior to foaling Dagworth, she dropped Al, whose only foal Waterford, was one of the speediest horses that was contemporary with such three-year-: olds as Chester, First King; Savanaka, Qlenormiston, Pluto, &c. The year before she died, Nutcut,' produced to Yattendon, Ella, who won the Launceston Cup; so it will thus he seen that Hollywood has had some distinguished relatives. Python never raced, as he met with an accident as a two-year-old, •
