The Dunedin Star has the authority of Sir Robert Stout for saying that hi* interview with the Premier bad no political importance, ner were political matters discussed. There is no ground -whatever for any statement regarding either his return to political life or of his accepting any office. Sir Robert Stout would not hare troubled to contradict the rumor only he thinks it might prejudice the Premier in the mind of his supporter*. ... &.t the North Canterbury Board ■of Education on Thursday letters were read from two lady teachers complaining that the new scale would reduce their salaries 50 per cent. The Board decided that in these and similar cases of special hardship salaries should be paid at the rote of -10 per cent less than was formerly received. A petition was read from teachers ;of small country schools, complaining of‘ the great reductions made in their salaries. Notice was given ot the motion providing that no male teacher in charge of a School shall receive less than £JOO per annnmj . Mr B. 0. Molloy, M.P., addreiseda large meeting at Auckland on Monday night bn Homo Ru'e. He spoke eloquently for two hours. Mr J. O’Meagher moved—“ That io the opinion of this meeting the system of coercion adopted by the present Government of England is repungant to the feeU ings of loyalty to the- throne,Mr R. Poole seconded the motion which was adopted. Archbishop Redwood,who was re. ceived with loud cheering, moved-‘•"That this meeting is of opinion that the remedy for the ills from which Ireland ! suffers wi’l be found in the granting of Home Rule to that country.” The Archbishop delivered a brief but effective address. The motion was i-eonded by Mr li. J. Duncan, and was carried.
