GERALDINE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.

The annual general meeting of the members of this corps was held in the Volunteer Hall on Tuesday evening last Captain R. H. Pearpoint occupied the chair. There were present Lieuts. Gr- Ward and K. McKenzie, and about 35 men. minutes. .. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed. BEIOBT AND BALANCE-SHEET. . The chairman, as Captain, reported that during the year they had put in 37 parades. He thanked the men and officers for the manner in which they had assisted him in carrying but the duties of the past year. He also ©specially thanked Lieut. Ward for the trouble he had taken with the recruits. That officer had done a very great deal for the corps during the year by the manner in which he had attended at the hall and drilled the recruits, and also by other means. (Applause.)

The balance-sheet was read, and showed the receipts of the general account to have been £367 10s 7d, and the expenditure, including a debit balance from last year of £5 12s lid, £B3l Os sd, leaving a credit balance of £36 10s 2d.

After being freely discussed the report and balance-sheet were adopted as read. .... The statement of liabilities and assets showed assets to the value of £lO9 14s fid, and liabilities amounting to £43 Is, leaving a balance of assets over liabilities of £66 13s fid. THE CAPITATION. Private Kalaugher asked at what meeting it had been decided that £2 of the capitation should be given to the men and £l go to the corps. The Chairman stated that it had been done ai a parade when the majority of the corps had been present, and when the questioner himself had voted for such allocation.

Private Kalaugher stated that since then he had altered his opinion as to the best method of _ distributing the money, and now wished to propose that the whole of the £3 be paid to the men.

The chairman pointed out that it would be necessary to rescind the previous resolution passed by the corps, and to do so would require a notice of motion to be tabled and a special meeting called to consider it. Private Kalaugher then decided to take no further steps in the matter. ELECTION OE COMMITTEE. It was decided that the committee should consist of six members. Eight were proposed, and upon the vote being taken the following were elected: —Lieuts. McKenzie and Ward, Bandsman Coltman, Bandmaster T. Sherratt, and Privates Smith and Kalaugher. MATCH COMMITTEE. The following were elected a Match Committee Lieut. Ward, Corporal Brown, Sergt. Flemming, Color.-Sergt. Stonehonse, and Private Coltman, VACANCIES. Is was resolved —“ That in the event of any member of the Managing Committee leaving the district or otherwise severing his connection with the company that power be given to fill the vacancy at any parade, notice of such election to be given.” TREASURER AND SECRETARY. Mr T. Sherratt was elected as treasurer and secretary for the ensuing year amid applause. A proposition was moved that the secretary’s honorarium be £1 Is. An amendment was moved that it be £3 3s.

Mr Sherratt, however, informed the corps that he should decline to receive any remuneration. (Applause.) CARETAKER. Sergt. Millard was voted the sum of £1 Is, he having acted as caretaker since the departure of the previous caretaker. Sergt. Millard having resigned the position, it was decided to suggest to the new committee to call tenders for the office of caretaker for one year, applicants to be restricted to members of the corps. RENT OF HALL. It was decided to recommend to the new committee that a scale of charges for the use of the hall be framed. MISCELLANEOUS.

The question of capitation again cropped up, some being in favor of a special meeting being called to arrange for the allocation as soon as the capitation for 1888 is received. After a short discussion a resolution was passed fied with the way in which the capitation for 1887 had been dealt with.”

A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee, also to Captain Pearpoint for his having acted as secretary and treasurer during the year. The usual compliment to the chair terminated the meeting.
