THE LIBERAL CONFERENCE.

London, Oct. 18.

The Liberal Conference was opened to-day at Nottingham, Mr Gladstone on his arrival in the city received a tremendous ovation from the inhabitants. Speaking at the Conference, Mr Gladstone vehemently denounced the conduct of the Government and their administration of Irish affairs. He said “ impertinence ” was the only word applicable to it, and declared that if the Government persisted in their rash folly in dealing with the present difficulties the government of that country would become impossible. A radical change of policy, he added, was necessary, which only an enfranchised nation could accomplish. Oct. 19.

Speaking at the Liberal Conference at Nottingham, Mr Gladstone admitted that the Liberals had terribly lost ground, and he complained of the servitude of Parliament. The coercion of Ireland had distinctly failed.

Mr Goschen, Chancellor of the Exchequer, speaking at Bradford, dwelt at length on the profligate incitement of Mr Gladstone’s language. He said that the anarchist doctrines advocated for Ireland would extend elsewhere, There is considerable agitation among the Unionist Press with regard to Mr Gladstone’s speech at the Liberal Conierence, which it declares is one of incitement to bloodshed and anarchy. The Nottingham Conference has decided that each delegate present shall have one vote.
