Ihe moth bos not proved very troublesome m Otngo, but as it is very deotructivft it may be us well to eive all the informal iun obtainable. The plant wbioh it is believed will keep the moths in check appears to be something of the same nature as the flesheating plant. It i* 1 a native of the Cupe of Good Hope. It has been auccesfully grown in Wanjjanui, and there would seem to be no t.-ouble in cultivating it. It bears|a flower with a scent which attracts moths especially. They enter the flower, and when they attempt to extract the pollen or whatever they Beek are caught by the proboaces and held thereuntil they die or are eaten by birds. Tbey become so firmly attached as to appear part of the flower itself. Fowls are said to readily pick out the moths, and then the flower is ready to act again as a moth trap. It must be evident that in a case like this there would be the likelihood of bees being caught in the same manner as moths. It appears, however, that bees are but seldom caught, so that in that respect the plant is not likely to be a nuisance. Mr Maskell, who is well"known as an entomologist, has great faith in the plant for eradicating the oodlin moth. Dr Hector is taking steps to distribute seeds of it to country settlers. HOIIOWAY'S OINXMBMT AND PILM. Some occupations tend to the derelopment of certain diseases, and those who toil as miners are peculiarly liable to rheumatism, Inmbago, and other allied oompUints. In the goldfields and copper mines Holloway's remedies have been largely patronised by the workers to their very great advantage, and they can be confidently recommended as invaluable remedies for inward congestions, tpasms and cramps in the bowels, and all those conditions of the lungs and liver to whioh those who work underground or in impure atmospheres are so peculiarly liable. For onti, bruises, sprains and stiffened joints, the action of Holloway's Ointment is eminently healing and soothing, and a supply ihould always be at hand in case of need, Lord Aberdeen left Auokland on Thursday per the Gairlooh for Waitara en route to Wellington. Notice summoning Major Eopata Wahawaha, of Waiomatina, to the Legislative Council was gazetted on Thursday night. A London oablegram says that Mrs James Brown Potter, who succeeded Mrs Langtry as the spoilt darling of high soceity, and the fashionable beauty of the day, has also, like the Jersey Lily, taken to the stage, having signed a contract with the manager of the Haymarket Theatre, London.
