THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.

London, May 8. At the Conference Sir Henry Holland stated that the reinforcing of the fleet renders an attack on Albany improbable. He also reverted to the offer of obsolete armament for unassisted ports. The delegates regard the Thursday Island and Albany questions as shelved. The distribution of the naval subvention has not yet been settled, Mr Service suggested that the Admiralty should survey the proposed cable route from Hawaii to Sydney, and expressed the belief that Canada would offer to bear half of the expense. Oir Hy. Holland intimated that he did not think this would te agreed to, Mr Service complained of the recent occupation of Wallis Island by Prance, which he said must be trea'ed as a further annexation.

The delegates, with a view of arriving at a conclusion on the New Hebrides question, state , that the proposed temporary settlement would be satisfactory if enforced completely and without partiality. The Australian delegates regard the alteration in the Queen’s title with indifference, whilst the Times considers it to bo among the most important and memorable acts of the Conference, May 9. At to day’s sitting of the Conference Sir P. D. Bell suggested that some alteration should be made in the Governors prerogatives of pardon and the power of dissolving Parliament. The Victorian delegates concurred in this view. The delegates generally thought it would be better to leave the Governor solely responsib'e, instead of his acting od the advice of his Executive Ministers. The sittings of the Imperial Conference closed finally to-day.
