GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Council was hold yesterday. Present—Meesrs E. A. Barker, W. Balfour and Walter Moore, Mr S. A. Barker (in the abienoa of Mr Talbot, chairman, who had telegraphed an apology for absence) was voted to the chair. The Special Order of April 13th, etrikiog a special rate of five-sixteenths of a penny in the £ in the Rangitata and 0.-ari Water Supply District, was now confirmed, the seal of the Council and all the memben present affixed thereto, Correspondence was read— From Mr Flatman, covering a petition from the residents of Woodbury that the locality might be constituted a Water-Supply District.—The necessary preliminary stsps to be taksn. From the Ashburton County Council, stating that Mr Tripp having complained of an encroachment of the Eangitata on hi* land, the Engineer had been asked to report on the matter and had done so, pointing out that at an expenditure of £25 at the traffic bridge the encroachment might be (topped, and asking the Council to oo operate in the matter.— Resolved—“ That the matter of protecting the south bank of the Eangitata river be left to the Ashburton County Council to deal with, so far a* the expenditure up to £25 is concerned for temporary repairs, and the Engineer be requested to report on the state of the river bank at next meeting.” From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board specifying £B2B 15s Id, as the Council’s share of the sum to be contributed. —The Clerk reported that he had written accordingly to the local bodies. From the Hon. W. Bolleston, replying to the Council’* letter re subsidies to looal bodies. From the Geraldine Road Bond. Levels Road Board, and Arowhenua Torn Board re collecting rate for Council. From Mr W. J. Campbell, applying for a slaughtering license at Kingsdown.-—Granted. Mr Moody's notice o! motion was read, and in his absence, moved by Mr Balfour and carried as follows“ That at next mooting n rate of a farthing in the £ be struck over the County, to be made payable on and after July I." After passing accounts, the Board rose, and a special meeting was held for the purpose of receiving the audited balance • sheet and figning the same. This haviug been done the meeting terminated.
