MR GLADSTONE AND SIR G. GREY.

The following correspondence hat been lent to tha London daily paper* for publication : “Kawau, Auckland, New Zealand. "My Dear Sir,—At the time you were ac prened with difficulties in the House of Commons regarding your Irish policy, I was anzions that you should be gladdened by knowing with what regard and eiteem you were looked upon by the majority of the people of this country and of its leading men, and, si the Assembly was sitting, 1 drew up an addrers to you of a few lines, which fifty of the leading men immediately signed. I think yon might like to have the original to replace the telegram which I forwarded to you. I therefore have ventured to enclose the original to you. I beg to express my hopes that you may yet give effect to the great line of policy which you brought forward, and remain, truly youra, “G. Giht.”

The address runs in the simple word*, “Our sympathies are with you,” and then follow the signatures of about fifty of the members of the General Assembly. Mr Gladstone replied aa follows ; “ 21 Carlton House Terrace, S.W., September 20th, 1886. 11 My dear Sir,—l have received the gratifying testimonial in regard to Irish policy from members of the Assembly of New, Zealand (nearly fifty in number) which you have been so good aa to tend me. 1 am: exceedingly gratified by this new assurance, added to eo many : previous ones from ell quarters of the world, that in company with, my colleagues 1 have bean panning a course favorable at once to the happiness of Ireland and to 1 the eafety and renown of the British Empire.—l have the honor to remain, my dear Sir, iioat faithfully your*.
