TWO WONDERFUL GUNS.
The Sydney Morning Herald spates that it hsa it on reliable authority that a gentleman resident in Sydney has invented a weapon claimed to bo immeasurably superior anything of the kind in existence. It is an electric machine-gun, capable of being fired to any point of the pompass with perfect accuracy, no fewer than ISO rounds ia every few seconds. The gun possesses m»hy advantages, inasmuch as it parries Hs own ammunition, is portable, and capable of being moved with great rapidity on the battlefield ; and can be fired in any position, either from defence works or a railway trainstationary or jn motion—from the deck or aloft of ships, or from small boats. It is claimed that the gun' cannot burst like a cannon, or get onf of and that for fhesfe re'asons, 1 together with its marvellous rapidity of fife, it is the greatest achievement in the military
3 scipnc'' of fclia nineteenth century. The J iuveu'ur is a veteran so'dier of scientific 3 attai:Hii< nis, who has seen much active ) service in the (’rimes and India, ■ and has devoted some twenty years to the study of the science of warfare, i He has also invented a new description of field gun, the bullets used being conical • but when fired assuming an arrow shape, and exploding upon striking the object, i and this, the inventor claims, is capable i of destroying an army at a distance of i two miles. This gun possesses equal facilities for service in respect of porta- . bility with the first named. These inventions are vouched for by a distinguished general officer who has seen the electric gun work. One great advantage of the gun is that with the exception of a few articles they can be constructed in Sydney, and are comparatively inexpensive. The subject has been brought under the notice of His Excellency (he Governor and Sir Alfred Stephens.
