HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. In the Legislative Council on Friday, The Colonial Secretary brought up the report of the Select Committee appointed to prepare the Address in Reply. Mr Pharazyn gave notice that on Tuesday he would move that the address be agreed to.

On the motion of the Colonial Secretary, the various Sessional Committees were appointed for the current session. Mr Bathgate took the oath and his seat. Mr Bailie was appointed Chairman of Committees for the session.

With regard to the Legislative Council Bill, Mr McLean gave notice of_ his intention to move for c call of the" Council to discuss the second reading.

The House met at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, A number of Hills were introduced. The usual Sessional Committees were then appointed. Sir George Grey gave notica of a motion for Wednesday next, as follows :- " That an address be presented to the Queeo, for the purpose of congratulating her on the steps recently taken in New South Wales and other colonies to aid, or to tender aid to the Empire at a time of temporary difficulty, and assuring Her Majesty that it in the desire of her subjects in New Zealand to render aid to the Empire to the best of their ability at all times when their services may be deemed of value and may be accepted by Her Majesty." Mr Stout, with the consent of Mr Pearson, moved that the motion on the Address in Reply be adjourned ttll Tuesday next. Mr Bryce said as far as he was personally concerned he should prefer that the motion should be allowed to proceed, but he thought in justice to absent members it would be hardly fair to consider the Address in Reply at once.

After some further discussion" the House adjourned at 3 p.m. till Tuesday next.
