ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, July 21. A popular demonstration in favor of the franchise reform movement, was held in Hyde Park to-day, and was attended by an enormous crowd of people, the number being estimated at one hundred thousand. The approaches to the Park were blocked,“and the streets in,the West End were impassable for hours, but no difficulty was experienced in the main tenance of order. It has transpired that Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, will accord Tawhiao an official reception at the Colonial Office to-morrow (Tuesday.) Mr Alfred Wills, Q.C., will succeed the late Sir C. J. Watkin Williams as Judge of the Queen’s .Bench, The Warsaw plot against the Czar was of the greatest extent of any yet discovered, and was directed from Moscow. Numerous prominent arrests in connection with it have been made. Paris, July 20. Eight deaths from cholera have occurred in this city to-day. The spread of the disease is causing considerable alarm, New York, July 20. A disastrous railway accident has occurred near Ohio. A train left the rails and fell over on embankment into a river. Twelve persons were drowned and twenty-five others were seriously injured. Hong Kong, July 20. Parleying regarding the French claim for an indemnity on account of the Langson affair is still proceeding. It is considered that the prospects of an agreement being arrived at are improveing. AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Brisbane, July 21. The barque Vanguard, 688 tons, which arrived here from London on the 11th inst„ reports that she carne into collision with the barque Farningham, 281 tons, bound from Port Chalmers to Adelaide, while off Tasmania. The Farningham suffered severely, and sank in five minutes. All on board were saved except three seamen who were below, ard could not be rescued by the, Vanguard. The latter vessel was somewhat damaged, but able to reach this port in safety. July 22. Sir W. Jervois leaves here to-day by the steamship Waihora for the Bluff. Sailed, this afternoon —Union steamship Waihora, for the Bluff. Sydney, July 22. Arrived, this afternoon Union steamship Arawata, from Auckland. A Gazette notice has been published to-day declaring the French and Egyptian ports to be infected, in consequence of the outbreak of cholera. All vessels therefrom will be quarantined on arriv’d.
