FOOTBALL.

WINCHESTER V. GERALDINE. The return match between the Winchester Football Club and the Geraldine Wanderers was played on the ground of the latter on Saturday aftenoon last. The representatives of Winchester were captained by G. Smith, and the following comprised the local team : —Fred Fish (captain), E. Millard, C. Harding, J. Brown, G. Betliune, C.Foster.K Temple, H. Fly, H. Chiverson, L. Millard, J Kalaugher, W. Fleming, W. Stone Louse, and Alfred Erskine. Messrs Cutten and R. Fish acted as umpires. The ground was in a very sloppy state as the condition of the players testified at the conclusion ■of the game. Both sides were two men short and in the last two spells Winchester pliyed one man less than their opponents. Geraldine having won the toss, the captain chose to play with their backs to the sun, and Smith kicked off for Winchester. The bail was quickly returned by the Geraldine backs, and a series of scrim - 1 mages ensued, in which Geraldine had the advantage, working the ball up to their opponents goal, when E. Millard secured the first touch-down for the home team. The try was entrusted to Fish who failed to convert it into a goal. Time was soon after called. In the next threw spells Geraldine'had it pretty well their own way, tries being' secured by Brown Harding, and Fish, from two of which goals were kicked hy the latter, thus winning the match by two goals and two tries to nothing. The Winchester team were much the older and bigger men , but did not play so well together as their opponents, who excelled in passing the ball and wore altogeiher more actiVe. For Geraldine, Fish, Brown, Harding, Fly, Betliune, ami E. Millard played well ; whilst Shallard, Bishop, Copping and Smith did good service for the other side. The game was marked throughout by the good feeling displayed.
