AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. TIMARU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : Horses —Abrut 30 draught, light harness horses and hacks were t--day received at their yards for sale. They report the demand dull, and but little competition for the various lots offered. About one-half of their entries found purchasers Pt from L2O to L 27 for goo-l draughts, inferior forts from LH to Ll 7, hacks from L 8 to Ll 5. Sheep—Thej have an enquiry for good crossbrrd hoggets. Merino and crossbred ewes for breeding purposes are a'so in demand, but in a number of cases the prices offered do not induce business, owners not being prepared to sell at a loss. At Washdyke on Tuesday last they placed 250 hoggets at 7s 101. Fat shaep are saleable at fair vain??. Privately they hivet placed several lines of two-tooths at price: almost equal to per lb. Cattle—Store cattle, if well grown,
are in rather better demand, and more saleable. At Washdyke on Tuesday they placed several small lots of ffood steers up to L 5 17s 6d, springing heifers from L 4 12s 6d to L 7. Fat Cattle —They sold at the Washdyke last Tuesday 14 steers at L 7. Wool, Skins. Hides, Tallow—They held their usual sale on Wednesday last at their rooms, when s lull entry was catalogued, viz., 5 bales and 6 bags wool, 1250 tkins, 25 hides, and a few bags tallow. • The whole lot found ready buyers with the exception of a few bales of wool, at the following prices : Butchers' merino and crossbred skins, from 2s 10J to 3s 9d. Farmers' lots, when well saved, from 2s to 3s 9d for merinos and erossbreds, several very i heavy woolled skins selling as high as from 4s lid to 5s 3d. Hides from 3d to per lb ; Ullow, from to 2|d per lb. Clearing Sale—On account of Mr Matthew Wightman, Waitohi, they held an extensive clearing sale of his stock and plant last Thursday, and notwithstanding the very unfavorable weather, tin's sale attracted a large number of bona fide buyers ; and throughout the sale, which lasted till dark, a spirited competition was maintained, the whole of the lots, with almost no exceptions, finding buyers. The horses being the special feature in the sale, were brought forward in first-class order, and all being well known as good workers, were eagerly competed for ; the sheep, implements, eto., also were well sold. The following are the results :—25 twotooth crossbred ewes at 14s 6d, 125 crossbred hoggets at lis Id, 80 merino ewes at 7s Gd, 80 do at 6s 6d, 50 pigs from 10s to 25s for weaners, sows from LI 17s 6d to L 4 10s, bacon pigs Ll 12s to L 3 ss. Over 50 draught horses were sold at from Ll 6 to L 26 for good draughts, medium and inferior sorts, from LI 0 to Ll 4, yearlings, foals, etc,, from LstoLl 5. After the sale they sold privately, at a satisfactory figure, Mr Wightman's well-known entire horse Lord Loftus, to Mr Michael Maye, who is to be congratulated on securing this favorite sire. A large number of farm implements, harness, etc., were also disposed off at good values.
