Wellington, July 9 At the Supreme Court to-day, Thomas J. Glew was acquitted of a charge of perjury. Charles HeDry Monektou. who was found guilty of making false representations under the Marriage Act, waa brought np for sentence. His Honor ■aid : -"Prisoner, the scandal which your trial has exposed to view ig one which must make even a h«rden«d profligate bluslt to have occasioned it. At -he present moment you are justly «ti object of disgust. The act of which you have been found guilty, may in toino cases be almost a venal offence, but you stand convinted of having made a lying declaration to advance a vile purpose. I call it a vile purpose becau»e the marringo was, under the circumstance, not'iing elb«but a disgus'iiig kind of prostitution. The institution of maringe is th« corner »tone of society. You have vil fied and degraded it in a w-ay almost unhtard'of, and I feel bound by a Bevere puin.iliiiient to viufiicate the laws which protect it. The sentence is that you be Kept n imprisonment, with hard ulior, foi a period of two years." Alice for a uke offence, vvas sentenced to 18 months.
