HAPPY WAITARA EVENT
CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY. The Christmas party for the children of Waitara, arranged by the Waitara amateur entertainers, who utilised profits from the recent production of “Mixed Pickle,” was held in Devine’s buildings on Saturday afternoon and was most enjoyable. Between 390 and 400 children were present, and all children under 10 years of age received toys, while bags of lollies were presented to those over 10. Three hundred toys were distributed and all present received ice creams and soft drinks. A large Christmas tree had been erected and the children were delighted by the appearance of Santa Glaus (Mr. H. Stockman), who quickly became the idol of the moment, and with a number of assistants distributed the gifts which took a considerable time. Owing to shortness of time, the programme of games arranged could not be carried out but all the-children spent a most happy time. The helpers were Mrs. R. L. Barclay, Mrs. F. Locke, Misses G. and Z. Bristol, T. Kibby, M. Allen, J. Callender, K. Frost, M. Nosworthy, Messrs. H. and T. Stockman, C. Simmons and A. G. Fraser, all of whom had a most busy time, and are deserving of general thanks for. the considerable amount of work they did.
