RECOVERY OF BUTTER
TOOLEY STREET OPINION IMPROVEMENT IN THE MARKET. NEW ZEALAND CHEESE ADVANCES. STRONG STATISTICAL POSITION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 21. The butter market is better, but Tooley Street operators are reluctant to hazard an opinion whether the recovery is permanent. The best opinions expect a reaction after Christmas followed by a further appreciation. The statistical position does not warrant an appreciable break. The steadiness of Danish and other Continental descriptions contrasts with New Zealand and Australian, as a result of comparative small shipments reaching England. New Zealand cheese, which for some time has been regarded as too low, marched ahead, especially coloured, which is in short supply. Mr. H. E. Davis, London manager for the New Zealand Dairy Board, when interviewed after his arrival expressed the opinion that improved prices for meat and dairy produce would enable the Dominion largely to increase British purchases.
