SCHOOL CONCERT PROGRAMME. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. Despite unfavourable weather there was a good attendance of parents at the annual school concert and distribution of prizes in the Tariki hall. The hall itself was tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers. The concert programme given under the direction of the head teacher, Mr. I. V. Buchanan, and the infant teacher, Miss Chapman, was a credit to all concerned and was much appreciated by the audience. The programme was as follows:—Unison song, seniors; pianoforte duet, seniors; playette, “Tea Party,” infants; song and dance, seniors; play, “Oliver Twist,” seniors; recitation, infants; unison, infants; play, seniors; unison singing, seniors; recitation, infants; play, “Photographer,” seniors; dance, senior girl; recitation, senior girl; pianoforte solo, senior; dialogue, senior boys. Following the concert Mr. H. A. Rumball, president of the Tariki branch of the Farmers’ Union, presented prizes for calf judging and home gardens as follows:— ! " Calves: Joyce Knowles 1, Peter Knowles 2, Bert Laurence 3. Home gardens: Nancy Knowles 1, Rita Knowles 2, Kathie Jemison 3. The chairman of the school committee (Mr. L. Hollis) presented the following prizes:— Proficiency certificates. School flower gardens: Nancy and Joyce Knowles 1, Rita Knowles and
Gwen Hildred 2, Blair and Hazel James 3. Good attendance certificates: Dorothy Blair, Hazel James, Rex Hollis, Graham James. Dux of school: Nancy Knowles. A feature of the evening was the arrival of Father Christmas with a book and a toy for each pupil. Mr. and Mrs. I. V. Buchanan left on Saturday for Wellington to spend the vacation. Miss Chapman is spending the holiday with her mother at New Plymouth. Results of bowling competition matches to date are:— Handicap singles: L. Hollis beat G. Knowles, L. Petch beat I. V. Buchanan.
