B GRADE SHIELD

BRASS BANDS CHAMPIONSHIP. NOMINATIONS FOR 1936 CONTEST., For the first time in the history of New Zealand band contests a B grade championship shield will be open to competition at New Plymouth in February. At a meeting of the New Plymouth committee on Thursday night the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association advised that the shield would be held for 12 months by the band gaining most' points in the two test selections. Twentysix nominations for A and B grades were received by the .committee. Should the weather be wet the Opera House has been engaged for the contest, which otherwise will be held in Pukekura Park. In any case all the solo competitions will be held in the' Opera House through the day. Hotels and boarding-houses have responded so well that the billeting committee has been able to arrange for the. accommodation of all visiting bandsmen within the limits of the town. Previously it was feared it would not be possible to obtain all the accommodation required and that in consequence some of the bandsmen would have to stay in neighbouring towns.
