NGAERE DISTRICT RESULTS. EFFECTS OF WET WEATHER. Ngaere district entries in the farmers’ pasture competition were judged by Mr. A. G. Elliott yesterday, Mr. A. D. Walker securing first place with 90J points. There were 18 entries this year compared with 14 last season. Commenting on the entries, the judge stated that generally, the pastures were very even but there were signs of a flush of growth, which in some cases had not been controlled. Some areas showed considerable weed growth due to the extremely wet winter conditions and subsequent poaching of the sward.

SUMMER SHOW ARRANGED. HORTICULTURE AT ELTHAM. A profit of £1 11s 6d on the first halfyear was announced at a meeting of supporters of the Eltham Horticultural Society. The receipts were £5O and the expenditure £4l. After paying all accounts and allowing half the members subscriptions to be credited to the summer show there was the small profit mentioned. The president, Mr. J. H. Barnard, thanked the committee for its good work and the members and public for generous support. It was decided to hold a summer show in the Eltham town hall on February 26. The schedule committee will meet next week and the schedule will be available before Christmas. Mr. A. W. Packard consented to continue to act as honorary secretary prov:ded a treasurer was appointed to act on the day of the show. Mrs. A. J. MacPherson undertook this position. GENERAL ITEMS. Sports Events Postponed. Rain caused the postponement yesterday of the official closing of the Stratford Golf Club and of the opening of the Mid’ c t Tennis Club. The golf clo'-'ng will take place to-morrow, weather permitting. Large Egmont Supplementary Roll. The supplementary roll of the Egmont electorate promises to be a large volume and already 1900 names are in the hands of the returning officer, Mr. E. L. Egarr. The supplementary roll does not close until next Monday and probably it will then contain well over 2000 names. At the 1931 election there were 1260 names on the supplementary roll.
