Y.W.-Y.M.C.A. EVENING
HURFORD ROAD DISTRICT NEWS.. The fortnightly evening of the Y.W.Y.M.C.A. was held in the Hurford Road hall on Saturday and was very well attended. Community singing was under the leadership of Mr. J. Ledgerwood, after which the young men were instructed in physical culture, w'hile the women undertook folk dancing under the leadership of Mrs. Ayckbourn. Miss' Baines played the accompaniments. The Hurford Road branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union met a wet night for its dance on Tuesday and little more than cleared expenses. The object of the dance was to raise funds for the Plunket Society. Music was by Boulton’s orchestra and Mr. T. Ryan was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. S. Jury and Mr. H. Mace and a competition for a cake given by Mays Ltd. was won by Mr. C. Horsup. Euchre winners were Mrs. F. Treweek and Mr. R. Spence.'
