TARIKI SOCIAL CLUB
SUCCESSFUL DANCE HELD. TERRITORIAL PLATOON FUNDS. The Tariki Young Men’s Social Club has a real influence in the district and is always willing to assist in any worthy cause. Though the weather undoubtedly affected the attendance at the carnival dance organised to assist the funds of the Tariki platoon of the Taranaki Regiment on Tuesday night, the gathering, which drew a good crowd including visitors from all over North and Central Taranaki, was successful and enjoyable. The club’s dances have a big reputation to maintain, but Tuesday’s lived up to the standard of its predecessors. The committee spared- no efforts to ensure success. The hall had been simply but effectively decorated with paper streamers and balloons. A feature was the excellent manner in which the relays for supper were handled. Despite the big crowd there was none of the scramble that characterises some dances, and the three relays were put through without any vexatious delays. The competition dances, which created much interest, proved very popular. The winners were: Spot waltz, Miss Sadie Byrne and Mr. B. Fabish, Tariki; statue log cabin, Miss E. R. Sowry (Pahiatua) and Mr. G. Evans (Hawera); Monte Carlo waltz, Miss J. Macßae and Mr. P. Matthews (Stratford); novelty Eva threestep, Miss D. Taylor (Midhirst) and Mr. E. Knowles (Tariki); mystery Monte Carlo, Miss A. Butler (Tariki) and Mr. C. Copestake (Stratford); Dutch Monte Carlo, Miss B. Burke and Mr. A. Mackie (New Plymouth). Hooker’s Merrymakers provided t the music and the masters of ceremonies were Messrs. J. Trass and E. Christiansen. The committee consisted of Messrs. F. Lawrence (chairman), J. Pettit and W. Atkinson (honorary secretaries), E. Christiansen, T. Wright, G. Moore, P. Drodowski, J. Trass, E. Karalus, A. Mahon, G. Miller, I. McCullum, W. Young, K. Butler, L. Butler, A. Butler, F. Butler and A. Knowles.
